VALMÉ OLIVIER

Without any formal training, except for experience in waitering during student years and a gap year in London, she never imagined becoming a restauranteur. Valmé studied BSc Biochemistry and Botany and worked in a laboratory for 4 years. After becoming a mom she operated her own business focused on  early childhood development. Since 2015 she was responsible for all operational duties for the restaurant.

Her passion lies in putting together Gaaitjie’s most unique wine list, sourcing great wines from the West Coast and Swartland area and some beautiful and special wines from other regions. The list boasts many award winning wines and spirits and some hidden gems are also included. She is now extending her knowledge in wine by doing wine courses with the Cape Wine Academy. Some memorable wine tastings and food and wine pairings has been held in the past and is looking forward to future collaborations.

THEUNS AND WILMA KRUGER

This mean team has experienced several business adventures together. They are the backbone and back-office support of the family as well as the Gaaitjie family, lending support, love and advice to all when needed.

Theuns is a chartered accountant and Wilma has loads of accounting hours in her book. Together they steer a clear and steady ship. Moving out of their comfort zone the started Gaaitjie Unplugged, which is the beach side restaurant under the tent, open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, serving fresh small plate meals for friends and families to share.

Jaco Kruger who was the head chef from the beginning in 2015, laid the foundation of our cuisine. Sadly in 2020 he moved to Ireland where he is furthering his career as a brilliant chef. During his time at Gaaitjie he built a very successful team and has left the cooking of our beautiful dishes in the most capable hands of Maryka Williams and Luvalain Losper.

They have taken over the responsibility of leading and guiding the team in the kitchen and are doing a fantastic job. Our kitchen team consists of local ladies who have years of experience in cooking fish and fresh local fare. They are only five operating the entire kitchen and they are a five star team. Our Front of House team under the capable leadership of Belinda Visser stands ready to make your Gaaitjie experience a memorable one
